Update on the U16s Kent Youth League squad
Jan 21,2009

The U16s have had a mixed season so far.

We lost our forward, David Adedipe, to Millwall at the beginning of
the season. By all accounts he is doing well making it into the U18s
squad and playing in the FA Cup for them. Plus there were county
trials for Kent FA, which we had 7 players make the last 22-man squad
and regularly having 4-5 players picked for county duties on a Sunday.
This, combined with the weather, has played havoc with our league
games.

We have progressed better in the cups – making the League Cup semi-
final against VCD, which is the same fixture we had last year and beat
them to get to our first final that season.

Jan 21,2009

Welling United U15 v Old Bealonians AFA Sunday Youth Cup Quarter Final
Result 13-0 Home win

After an amazing start when in the first 22 seconds Tanega received
the ball on the right wing and looked as if to cross it as he was
marked by 2 defenders, he took a shot instead and the keeper looked
shocked when it finished in the net.

5 more goals followed in quick succession (Tanega (6) Olaibi(9) Aregbe(13) Fawemo(16) (18)) with accurate passing and speed on our side 2 more goals were scored in the first half (Aregbe (31)Tanega (41)).

Second half there was no let up from the team just pure determination as goals were scored (Bolarinwa (46) Izokun(49) Fawemo(58) (66) (68))

Saturday Youth AFA Cup 17th Jan 09

Saturday Youth AFA Cup 17th Jan 09
Bethwin FC U15 v Welling United U15

We have travelled away for all Saturday Cup fixtures so far and this
journey was by far the most challenging. I was up early to go and pick
up players from Thamesmead. Amazingly the Captain (Nelson) who
allegedly was not coming was the only one at the meeting point at the
scheduled time.

Eventually we set off for Tooting Bec where the fixture was to take
place. There must be at least 28 traffic lights on this tedious journey
down the South Circular. We picked up Tanega on the way who had just
finished a trial with the District team.
The journey took over an hour and we arrived only 30 minutes before
kick-off. Still we were encouraged that there was no sign of the home
team so we thought maybe we were in with a chance.
